Parent Request Policy 
 

East Leroy Elementary 
 

Teacher requests for next year will only be accepted under certain conditions. Those requests will be considered along with teacher recommendations and classroom balance. Every classroom will be balanced for total numbers of students, the numbers of boys and girls, student ability levels, and and students with special needs. We may or may not be able to honor your request based on these considerations. 
 

If you would like to request a teacher for your child, we will need you to do the following things: 
 

1. Submit the request in writing, with the educational reasons for the request, to the office no later than the last week in April. All children will be placed for educational reasons, not because of friends in the class.  
 

2. Visit the classrooms concerned or talk with each teacher. We want you to make an informed decision. 
 

3. Placement recommendations for the next school year will be made by the teachers at the current grade level to the principal. The principal will have final authority to approve all placement recommendations and requests. 
 

4. Please see Athens Area Schools Board of Education Policy number 5410 (on reverse) for further guidance.
