School Resource Officer

We have been very fortunate to have the services of a School Resource Officer. Officer Mark Mellinger has been supplied to us by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi. We wish to express our appreciation to them for this valuable service to the school district and our students. The School Resource Officer primarily is present to establish relationships with students and parents. He will also mentor students and teach them about safety.

Hello, my name is Mark Mellinger, I am a Tribal Police Officer with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi. I have a wonderful wife and two sons. I received my Degree from Western Michigan University and started my career at the Schoolcraft Police Department. I then transferred to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and worked there for approximately 14 1/2 years. I have served with the Tribal Police since the fall of 2023. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know and serve the NHBP Tribe and the Athens Area School District.
