New Cell Phone Policy

Dear Athens Family Members

Effective upon students' return from break January 5, 2026. The new cell phone policy has been added to page 13/14 of our student handbook. This change is being made to ensure a safer and more productive learning environment for all.

Student cell phone use is prohibited from 7:20 AM to 2:20 PM on all school days. This ban includes all areas of the school building: classrooms, hallways during passing periods, the cafeteria, restrooms, and any other common areas. All students must place their phones in their lockers prior to 7:20 AM and may not access them until dismissal at 2:20 PM.Phones may not be carried on person, in pockets, backpacks, or used in any capacity during the school day.

This policy applies to all devices capable of messaging, calling, taking photos, recording, or accessing the internet.

Exception:

  • Students who require access to a cell phone for documented medical reasons must have: A doctor’s note outlining the medical need, and written approval on file with the school administration. Without proper documentation, no exceptions will be granted.

Discipline Expectations:

  • On the first offense the phone is confiscated and must be picked up by the student at the end of the day.
  • Second offense a  parent or guardian must pick up the confiscated device at the end of the day.
  • If there is a third offense  the student is placed on a “cell phone plan” requiring them to turn their phone into the office consecutively for five days.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to a stronger and more engaging environment when students return from break. Stay warm and be safe and we look forward to seeing you all return at the start of the new year.
